Obituary: V. Ruth Stroud

V. Ruth Stroud, 72, of Farlington, died at 12:51 a.m., Friday, August 9, 2019 in the Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

She was born October 6, 1946 at Stockton, Missouri, a daughter of Jimmie and Mary (Lake) Hunt.  She grew up and attended schools in Stockton.  

Ruth married Roger R. Stroud on January 8, 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma.  Roger preceded her in death on May 28, 2006.

Ruth and her husband were caretakers at Elm Creek Lake near Hiattville before moving to Farlington in 1996.

Survivors are her children, Eddie Kirbey, Annette Wheeler, Tonya Keith. Her step-children, Rodney Stroud, Sharon Barnhart, Marie Stroud, Denise Snavely, and Laura McCall. Her grandchildren, Cory and Joshua Brandell, Tony, Kevin, and Grace Keith, Aaron and Clinton Vanatta, Bobbie, Ryan, and Robyn Stroud, Brian Wagner, Amanda Guglieimi, Rusty Carson, Eric Ikehorn, Allison Ikehorn, Sierra Snavely, Alex and Nicole Short. Numerous great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jim, Lloyd, Bob, and Harold Hunt, Faye Harra and Mary Nelson.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, Teresa Stroud-Wagner, in 1986; a grandson, Derrick Cole Brandell, in 1997, and a brother, Gene Hunt.

Ruth was a loving mother that cared deeply for her family.  She enjoyed being outdoor, fishing, and flower gardening.  She declared herself housekeeper, chef, and bottle-washer.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Brian Studer officiating.  Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Monday from Noon until service time.
