Obituary: James Mattson

James C. Mattson, 77, of Girard, died at 6:20 a.m., Friday, July 30, 2021 at his residence.

James was born June 21, 1944 in Pittsburg, a son of Leo and Sarah A. (Laird) Mattson.

Jim attended Lincoln Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High School and Pittsburg High School, graduating in 1962.

He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 until 1970.

He worked as a manager for Cliff and Dan Hix at Hix Corporation in Pittsburg for 38 years.

Jim married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Sharon L. Leigh, on March 18, 1976 in Miami, Oklahoma. Sharon preceded Jim in death on February 21, 2018.

Jim enjoyed his family and friends and spending time with them relaxing in his garage and watching them have fun in his pool.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 5 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Wednesday.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
