Obituary: Dwight Sauer

Dwight Kevin Sauer, 58, of Girard, died at 3:33 a.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Girard Medical Center after a lengthy battle with Covid 19.

Dwight was born November 26, 1962 in Girard, a son of Henry E. “Ned” and Mary Elaine (Curtis) Sauer. Dwight grew up and attended schools in Girard and graduated from Girard High School in 1981. Dwight excelled in academics, sports, and student leadership. After a serious auto accident his senior year in high school, he became an avid Christian and fell in love with Jesus. He enjoyed attending church, volunteering activities, and serving the Lord. Dwight was a member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church in Pittsburg.

Dwight had a very positive and outgoing personality and always maintained a great sense of humor. He worked at the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard for several years before declining in health. Dwight was an avid fan of several sports, especially his beloved Kansas City Chiefs.

Survivors are his parents of Girard; his sweetheart of 22 years, Michelle Thomas of Pittsburg; a sister, Greta Zaring, and her husband, Steve, of Ft. Collins, Colorado; his brothers, Brian Sauer, and his wife, Phyllis, of Pittsburg, Randy Sauer, and his wife, Pam, of Carl Junction, Missouri, Doug Sauer, and his wife, Kelly, of Houston, Texas, Brad Sauer, and his wife, Michelle, of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; his nieces and nephews, Amanda, Ashley (Chase), Alison (Payton), Andrew, Claire, Paige, Laura (Chris), Annelise (Matthew), Adam, and Evan.

Private Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastors Daryl Gaddy and Don Talent officiating. Burial will follow at the Girard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. Face masks and social distancing will be required. Friends are welcome earlier to sign the guest book beginning at 2:00 p.m., Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
