George Donald “Don” Peterson, 79, of De Queen, Arkansas, formerly of Girard, died at 4:10 p.m., Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
George was born November 7, 1935 in Kinsley, Kansas, a son of George D. and Edna (Dorman) Peterson.
The family moved to Farlington and then to Girard, where George grew up and attended schools.
George served in the US Air Force for over 20 years, including 2 tours of duty in Viet Nam.
He worked at Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in Pittsburg for over 20 years.
George was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grannis, Arkansas and a member and past-commander of the Steven Bennefeld Post No. 7479, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Girard.
He enjoyed his grandchildren, going to auctions, driving and sightseeing, and dining out.
Survivors are a son, Allan Peterson of De Queen; a daughter, Lacey Doubledee of Waco, Missouri; step-daughters Brandi Reaves of Joplin and Justine Wiltz of Emporia; grandchildren Anthony and Jaydon Peterson, Maxwell, Micaha, and Corbin Doubledee; 3 step-grandchildren; sisters Pat Stevens of Girard, Dorothy Richards of Bakerfield, California, Myrtle James of Frontenac, and Betty Peterson of California.
George was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Carl Lee Peterson; a step-son, Don King; a brother, Archie Peterson, and a sister, Doris Geier.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at the Farlington Cemetery with Pastor Homer Frachiseur officiating. Burial will follow the services with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Friday.
