The Girard boys’ basketball team received the number-one seed in their sub-state tournament and will face the four-seed Baxter Springs Friday, March 7, at 6:00 p.m. at Columbus. The Trojans will enter play with a 10-10 record, and Baxter Springs currently holds a 1-17 record. Girard defeated the Lions 40-39 in their first matchup, and followed that up with a 61-46 victory their second game against Baxter this season. If the Trojans win, they will face off against three-seed Columbus (6-14) or four-seed Frontenac (5-14), on the following Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for the sub-state championship.
The Lady Trojans are the four-seed in their respected tournament, and will face off against three-seed Columbus (16-4), on Thursday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. Girard lost both matchups with Columbus this season, 37-53 and 47-52. If the Lady Trojans win, they will face one-seed Frontenac (17-2) or four-seed Baxter Springs (4-14) on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. for the championship.
