St. Paul sweeps Crest

            In the Indians the last matchup, it was a clean sweep of opponent the Uniontown Eagles as St. Paul eased their way to victory. Following their sweep, the Indians looked to do the same against an opponent the Colony-Crest Lancers, Dec. 17.

For the Lady Indians, they came into the matchup #1 in TRL standing at 4-1 with an undefeated league record as they looked to add another win to their record against league opponent Crest (1-4).

In the first, junior Katie Coomes would control much of the offense scoring 9 of St. Paul’s 13 points in the quarter. Crest would stay within reach scoring 9 points bringing the score to 13-9 at the end of the first.

For St. Paul in the second, Coomes continued her hot hand scoring half of the Indians 10 points as the Lancers would match their effort scoring 10 as well. But the Lady Indians would hold the advantage at the half leading 23-19.

The Lady Indians would open up the gap in the third with all players contributing to the offense. Defensively, St. Paul would hold the Lancers to only 7 points with the Indians breaking open the gap scoring 15 points. The score at the end of the third was 38-26.

Crest’s effort from there wasn’t enough as the Indians continued to open up their lead holding the Lancers to only four points in the fourth. St. Paul would then go on to win the game 52-30 capturing their fourth league win (3-0) as well as improving on their overall record (5-1).

Junior Katie Coomes lead the game in scoring with 15 points in total. Freshman Emerald Struthers finished double-digits in scoring with 10 points on the night. Other key contributors were freshman Claire Bradshaw with 8 points and junior Emily Hutcherson with 7 points.

For the boys, they came into the matchup #1 in TRL with an undefeated league record as well as an overall record of 3-2. Crest’s team looked for an edge as they came into the game 1-4 overall.

It was an offensive explosion for the Indians in the first quarter as junior Chandler Bradshaw would pull the effort scoring 8 in the first alone. Junior Easton Dent would help the Indians’ effort as well in the first scoring 6 points. At the end of the first quarter, the Indians led 21-11.

The second quarter became more of a defensive battle as both teams were minimized on their scoring. St. Paul would open the gap at the half 36-20 with junior Chandler Bradshaw scoring 13 of the Indians’ 36 points.

From there, the Indians would pour in the points as Crest had no answer offensively. The Indians would go on to win the matchup 68-35 improving to 4-2 overall while maintaining their undefeated league record (4-0).

Senior Kenny Haney led all scorers with 18 points total, scoring 12 of those points in the fourth quarter. Juniors Easton Dent and Chandler Bradshaw would follow behind in scoring as Dent finished with 14 and Bradshaw ended with 13. Junior Adam Albertini would provide a load of scoring as well ending his day with 12 points.

The St. Paul Indians will have Christmas break before their next matchup, Jan. 8, as the Indians stay home to face league opponent Marmaton Valley.
