Obituary: Virginia Lee Finley

   Virginia Lee Finley, 76, of Walnut, died at 3:32 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019 at her residence in Walnut. 
   Virginia was born October 28, 1942 at Fort Scott, a daughter of Howard and Agnes (Workman) Armstrong.  She attended Hepler Grade School, Walnut High School and she graduated from Stark High School.
   She married Robert L. Finley, Sr. on January 5, 1959 in Walnut.  They celebrated 60 years of marriage.  Robert survives of the home.
Virginia worked at the Finley Grocery Store in Walnut, the post offices in Walnut and Fort Scott, and she was Post Master at St. Paul for over 30 years.  She later worked at the Farmer’s State Bank in Walnut and she cared deeply for the needs of other family members.
   Virginia enjoyed her family, traveling and postal conventions, going to the farm, and her cat, Freddie.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Walnut.
   Survivors, in addition to her husband, Robert, of the home are her daughters, Janet Swor, and her husband, Ed, of Pittsburg and Jeannie Grotheer, and her husband, John, of Arma; her mother, Agnes Armstrong, of Fort Scott; a daughter-in-law, Samantha Finley of Girard; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister, Diana Fletcher, and her husband, Dave, of Fort Scott; her brothers, Steve Armstrong, and his wife, Janet, of Fort Scott and Stan Armstrong, and his wife, Cindy, of Texas.
   Virginia was preceded in death by her father and a son, Robert Lyle “Robbie” Finley, Jr. on June 3, 2014.
   Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with burial in the Walnut Cemetery. 
   The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Sunday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Matt Delp officiating.  Friends may call after 1:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
   Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Walnut or the Alzheimer’s Association and these may be left at or mailed to the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
