OBITUARY: Steven E. Geier

Steven E. Geier, 57, of Erie, Kansas, formerly of Girard, Kansas, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 9, 2016 at his residence in Erie. Geier OBIT
Steve was born September 17, 1958 in Pittsburg, Kansas, a son of Fred and Ann (Shanholtzer) Geier. He grew up and attended school in Girard where he excelled in basketball and football. He went on and attended Pittsburg State University.
Steve found a love for Rodeo. He was even the 1987 ACRA Steer Wrestling Rookie of the Year. Steve then began his career in construction, building houses across southeast Kansas with Nels Smith. They were later joined by Steve’s brother, Fred Geier. Steve and Fred later started what is now Geier Bothers Construction.
He married Susan K. Hall on July 3, 1997 in Erie. She survives of the home.
Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He had many hobbies including golfing, gardening, canning, raising cattle, cooking, hunting, and playing games with his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Susan Geier, of the home, are their children, Jena Viles, and her husband, Johnny, of Peculiar, Missouri; Ryan Geier of Sayre, Oklahoma and his children, Gavin and Garrett; Meghan Dunning, and her husband, Leonard, of Grove, Oklahoma and their children, Gracie and Ryder; Raemee Tollison, and her husband, Joe, of Grove, Oklahoma and their children, Kaiden and Makenna; Seth Hall and Kayla Heady, of Erie and their children, Addi and Declan; Danielle Long, and her husband, Aaron, of Hepler and their children, Emma and Everett; Dawn Paoni, and her husband, Chris, of Girard and their children, Jaylynn and McKenin; his parents, Fred and Ann Geier of Girard; his brothers Fred Geier, and his wife, Jan, of Farlington, Kansas; Kenny Geier, and his wife, Kristi, of Girard; Jeff Geier, and his wife, Patty, of Girard; a sister, Joyce Taylor, and her husband, Steve, of Girard; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Luke Oldweiler officiating. Burial will be held at the Girard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home where friends may call after 2:00 p.m.
