Indians overwhelm Jayhawks

            The Lady Indians suffered a closely contested 46-40 loss to the Frontenac Raiders in their prior matchup, Feb. 6. Following the loss, the Indians traveled back to Billy Fager Fieldhouse for a league matchup against Jayhawk-Linn (2-13). The two teams met earlier in the season, Jan. 20, with St. Paul claiming a 67-22 victory over the Jayhawks. 

            St. Paul came out on a mission, looking to avenge the previous loss. The Lady Indians would outscore the Jayhawks 41-14 in the first half alone as they went on to claim a 63-30 victory over Jayhawk-Linn. 

            Senior Taylor Wiatrak led the Lady Indians in scoring Tuesday night finishing the game with 11 points for the Lady Indians. Senior Emily Hutcherson helped the Lady Indians claim victory as well as ending the game with ten points. 

            For the boys, the team comes off a crushing 57-40 loss to the Frontenac Raiders, Feb. 6. Looking to bounce back from the defeat, the Indians went back to their home court to face the Jayhawk-Linn Jayhawks in a conference battle, Feb. 11. 

            The two teams traded baskets in the first half as baskets came at a premium early on in a low-scoring league matchup. At halftime, St. Paul led Jayhawk-Linn 17-16. In the second half, the offense of the Indians (11-6) kicked it up a notch outscoring the Jayhawks (7-8) 29-19 to capture a 46-35 victory over Jayhawk-Linn. 

            Senior Adam Albertini put on a major performance for the Indians finishing the game with 18 points. Senior Kaleb Lemmons showed out as well for St. Paul ending his night with 16 points total.

            Following the sweep of the Jayhawks, the St. Paul Indians basketball teams travel to Altoona-Midway to face the Jets in a TRL matchup Friday, Feb. 14.
