Trojan cross-country advances to state

The Girard Trojan boys and girls cross-country teams both qualified for the 4A state track meet by winning the Regional Meet in Burlington Saturday, Oct. 22.

On the girls side, the team finished with a score of 61 points, one point ahead of Fort Scott.

Cailie Logue led the charge with a first place finish and a time of 17:51, nearly two minutes ahead of the second place finisher.

In second place was Layne Karhoff with a time of 19:44. Rachael Stephan also finished in fifth for Girard.

Other Girard competitors included Kenzie Coester, Mary Zimmerman, Caylee Egbert and Megan Shireman.

On the boys side, the team finished with a score of 57 points to earn first place.

Ryan Hughes led the team with a second place finish and a time of 16:50. Kyler Newkirk also finished in eighth place for Girard.

Other Girard competitors included Evan Troike, Hunter Ulbrich, Brayden Gardner, Kendall Belcher and Brett Ferguson.

Both teams have qualified to compete in the state track meet in Wamego Saturday, Oct. 29.
