For the second straight year, the St. Paul Indians have earned the chance to play for a sub-state championship after defeating Southern Coffey County at Moran Thursday night.
With an even score through one, the Indians made their run in the second quarter when they outscored the Titans 16-8 to take a 28-20 lead into the break.
After an evenly matched third quarter, the Indians had eight minutes to hold on to their eight-point lead. This would prove to be a tough task, as the Titans outscored St. Paul 11-0 to start the fourth, even taking a three-point lead before Braven Born would sink a trey to tie the game and flip the momentum back to the Indians.
The Indians held on to take a 52-47 victory, led by 14 points from Brenden Doherty and another 13 from Born.
St. Paul will face the one-seed Flint Hills at 7:30pm on Saturday night. Flint Hills earned their championship berth with a double overtime victory over hosting Moran on Thursday.
