Roger William Westhoff, 78, of Hepler, Kansas, passed away at the family home, Monday. January 28th, 2019
Roger was born January 12, 1941 in rural Hiattville, Kansas, a son of William and Elinor (Robinson) Westhoff. He attended school in Walnut, Kansas, graduating from Walnut High School.
He and Joyce (Hays) were united in marriage on June 4, 1960 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Walnut. She preceded him in death on September 2, 2017. They spent their entire life together as longtime residents of Hepler. Roger was very active and a devoted husband, dad, and grandfather.
In the youth of his career he began work at Ritter’s Feed Store in Hepler, while also tending his own feeder pig and sow operation. He also was an employee of Bill’s Coal Company in Garland, Kansas. He took great pride in his lifelong ownership and operation of Circle W Supplies Warehouse and Cattle operation.
Roger was a charter member of the Hepler Ruritan Club, served as Hepler Hustler 4-H Club Leader, and a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church of Walnut.
Roger enjoyed work, his time with family and holidays with his extended family, and traveling with Joyce.
Roger is survived by his sons; Joseph Westhoff, and his wife, Lisa, of Girard, Kansas Ronald Westhoff, and his wife, Lori, of Salina, Kansas, Donald Westhoff, and his wife, Lynette, of Redfield, Kansas; his daughters Jeanette Davied, and her husband, Ron, of Farlington, Kansas, Connie Coover, and her husband, Mike, of Erie, Kansas; his grandchildren; Brian Davied, and his wife, Jill, Amanda Davied, Zachary Howard, and his wife, Tracy, Katie Hutson, and her husband, Austin, Lukas Howard, Brittany Rhuems, Coleman Westhoff, Carter Westhoff, Cooper Westhoff, Cassidy Westhoff, Mallory Westhoff, Lillian Westhoff, Chris Coover, and his wife, Vikki, Ryan Coover, and his wife, Sarah, Angie Bogner, and her husband, Jon; eighteen great-grandchildren; his brother, Sonny Westhoff of Miami, Oklahoma; his sister, Judy Whitworth, and her husband, Dick, of Miami.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one daughter, Pam Matile, a granddaughter, Savannah Matile, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Westhoff.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 31, 2019 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Girard with Fr. Floyd McKinney as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Walnut.
The Rosary will be 7 p.m., Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church with a visitation to follow. Friends are invited to call at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home after 3 p.m., Tuesday.
Memorials are suggested to Children’s Transportation Fund for Shriners of Pittsburg, Kansas or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and these may be left at the church or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
