OBITUARY: Harmon “Bub” Eugene Wolken, Jr.

Harmon “Bub” Eugene Wolken, Jr., 66, of Girard, Kansas, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.  wolken-obit-mug
He was born January 7, 1950 in Chanute, Kansas, son of Harmon E. Wolken, Sr., and Frances Wheeler.  He grew up and attended schools in the Chanute, Earlton, and Buffalo areas.
As a teenager, he started working for Beachner Construction Company in St. Paul, Kansas.
Harmon was in the US Army from 1968 until 1971, serving 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.
He married Debra S. Murrow on October 11, 1980 at Mapleton, Kansas.  She survives of the home.
After serving our country in Vietnam, Harmon returned to Beachner Construction Company in 1971 and worked as a bridge superintendent, helping construct numerous bridges in the area, before retiring in the spring in 2016.
Harmon enjoyed his family, playing cards, camping with his family at Lake Parsons, and taking his grandchildren out boating and skiing.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Debra, of the home, are his sons, Harmon “Chip” Eugene Wolken, III, and his wife, Brandy, of Erie, Kansas and Shane Wolken, and his wife, Sarah, of Scammon, Kansas; his daughters, Shonda Jefferis, and her husband, Joe, of Moran, Kansas; Carol Denham, and her husband, Tyler, of Girard; Teresa Wolken, and her husband, Benjamin Ecks, of Blue Springs, Missouri; Misty Covvey, and her husband, Chuck, of Carl Junction, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; his brothers, Dale Wolken of Erie; Kevin Wolken of Conway Springs, Kansas; Wendell Wolken of Erie; his sisters, Kim Russell of Altoona, Kansas; Brenda Welch of Erie, Karen Showalter of Erie.
Harmon was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dan Wolken and Bruce Wolken; a sister, Penny Sexton.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Dale Samuels officiating.  Military honors will be given at the funeral home following the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., Sunday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 1:00 p.m., Sunday.
