Obituary for Kenneth Heilman

 

Kenneth Heilman, 95, of Pittsburg, Kansas passed away at 12:50 a.m., Thursday, February 15, 2018 at his residence.

He was born June 9, 1922 in Liberal, Missouri, a son of George William and Maude (Robertson) Heilman. 

On September 5, 1942 Kenneth was united in marriage to Maud Ellen Newland in Columbus, Kansas, she preceded Kenneth in death on September 10, 2003.

Kenneth was employed as a machinist for Lockheed Aircraft in California. After his return to Girard, He was employed by the Sutherland Lumber Company in Frontenac.

Kenneth was a veteran of World War II, serving in Japan.

He attended the Frontenac Methodist Church; he and his best friend Bonnie helped in the Meals on Wheels program in Frontenac for seven years; they also helped prepare the church noodle dinner.

He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, gardening and mowing lawns.

Kenneth is survived by two sons: Bill Heilman and his wife Sandi of Van Alstyne, Texas, Kevin Heilman of Turlock, California, two daughters: Nancy Minnich of Fresno, California, Pat Ashmore of Osawatomie, Kansas, twelve grandchildren, his best friend and sweetheart Bonnie Broyles and her family.

In addition to his wife, Kenneth was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.

Services for Kenneth Heilman will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Anne Ricker officiating; burial will follow in the Hope Cemetery at St. Paul, Kansas. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Meals on Wheels of Frontenac and these may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W. St. John, P.O. Box 258, Girard, Kansas 66743
