In a much anticipated Three Rivers League matchup, the Southeast Lancers and the Northeast Vikings squared off Friday night, September 21, in Cherokee.
The Vikings and the Lancers have a history playing each other as both teams used to be in the CNC league prior.
Northeast (0-4) came off a loss to Uniontown as Southeast is following their win over Yates Center looking to keep that momentum going.
Southeast was in control of the game from the whistle as their offense as well as their defense shut down the Vikings attack only allowing Northeast to 6 points.
Senior Southeast quarterback Brett Malle could not be contained in the pocket as he completed six passes for 155 yards and a touchdown. Malle also dominated on the running end finishing the game with 148 yards rushing and a touchdown rushing as well. Junior running back Bryce Petersen came up huge for the Lancers as well running for 82 yards and receiving 61 yards with 143 yards of total offense combined.
Northeast’s lone touchdown came off a fumble return, but they had no answer to the stifling defense of Southeast as the Lancers defeated the Vikings 27-6.
The Vikings will stay at home next week as they face CNC school Riverton in a non-conference matchup. Northeast currently sits at sixth in the division looking to capture their first victory.
Southeast will travel to Jayhawk Linn (2-2) to battle to Jayhawks in a conference matchup as they currently stand at second place in their division behind Pleasanton.
