Two months after the restaurant’s permanent closure, the Pizza Hut building in town is no more.
A demolition crew brought the building down on the morning of Dec. 30.
Calls left that morning with Heath Weidert, owner NPC International’s senior leasing analyst, did not receive a reply.
NPC attempted to sell the building since the October closure at a list price of $150,000, with no apparent success.
City Administrator Chris Weiner said the demolition is unfortunate for Girard.
“I wish NPC would have worked something out with another business to buy the property, but obviously things don’t always work out the way you hoped,” he said.
The upside to the loss of a restaurant without replacement is that the other places in town may see a rise in customers.
“We’ll move forward as a community and just as Pizza Hut’s business has been spread among the other restaurants here in town,” Weiner added, “we will continue to spread our efforts to help our local businesses succeed and promote economic development here.”
