Last Friday, April 25, the Trojans faced Southeast for a pair of league games.  In the first  game, Girard trailed 3-2 after three innings before the Lancers opened up the contest with five runs in the fifth inning.  Girard countered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the fifth, but it wouldn’t be enough as they fell 11-6 despite Garrett Bailey’s seven strikeouts from the mound and Tucker Johnston’s three-hit, two RBI game.  In the second game of the doubleheader, Southeast picked up two runs in the second and one in each the third and fourth inning.  Girard put two on the board with a run in the fifth and seventh innings, but the Lancers held on for a 4-2 win.  Ashton McManis pitched a complete game for the Trojans, collecting four strikeouts over seven innings.  Teddy Paoni led Girard with two hits, and Johnston collected his third RBI of the day with one in the second game.

On Monday, Girard traveled to Columbus, and lost 14-1 after five innings.  Leading 2-1 after two innings, Columbus had an eleven-run third to blow the game open. Quintin Ausemus collected one of Girard’s three hits, while Columbus scattered seven hits to supply their 14 runs.  With the loss, Girard fell to 0-13 on the year.

Girard plays again tomorrow at Galena.
