Benjamin F. DeMoss, Jr. age 83, of Overbrook, KS, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018 at his home. He was born November 23, 1934 in Indianapolis, IN at Methodist Hospital the son of Benjamin F. DeMoss, Sr. and Grace Ann (Reel) DeMoss. Benjamin grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Indianapolis Public School #38 with the class of 1952.
After graduation Benjamin enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country for the next four years of his life. During his service to his country he was a gunner on the USS Los Angeles CA135, earning the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal with two stars, United Nation Service Medal, and a Purple Heart for wounds received in Wonson, Korea.
Mr. DeMoss was an Auto Mechanic in West Newton, IN for several years at Johnson’s Garage. He later became Food Services Machine Repairman for Hobart Corporation in Topeka, KS until his retirement. He moved in 2016 to Overbrook, KS after living for several years in Walnut, KS.
On November 2, 1979 Benjamin was united in marriage to Emma Jane DeMoss in Alma, KS. Emma Jane precedes him in death.
He is also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, JoRetta Quinn.
Benjamin is survived by a sister, Rosalie Dearinger, Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Loretta Virt, Fayetteville, NC, Janice Madill, Overbrook, KS; son, Ben Cooper, Carlisle, PA; two step daughters, Penny Payne, Olathe, KS, Piper McPherson, Topeka, KS; sixteen grandchildren,; and sixteen plus great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday February 28, 2018 at Ft. Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, KS. Condolences to the family may be sent through www.lamb-roberts.com
