Girard sweeps Oswego to finish regular season

To finish the regular season, the Girard Trojans’ girls and boys basketball teams were on the road to face the Oswego Indians Thursday, Feb. 22.
During the girls’ game, it quickly became apparent that the Lady Trojans would have no issue controlling Oswego after they found a 23-6 lead in the first quarter.

Girard lost no momentum in the second quarter, scoring an additional 22 points and allowing Oswego only seven.
With a 45-13 lead at the half, the Lady Trojans held strong through the third quarter and began to introduce a few fresh faces on the court.
The Lady Trojans’ younger squad took on Oswego in the fourth quarter to seal the victory with a score of 57-28.
Sydnee Crain led the team’s offense throughout the night, scoring 27 individual points. This moved her to a total of 484 points on the season, breaking Girard’s previously held single-season record of 466 points by Hadyn Herlocker.
Girard’s final victory in the regular season brought their record to 13-7.
Following the Lady Trojans’ victory, Girard’s boys met nearly the same level of competition.
In the first quarter, the Trojans wasted no time jumping ahead, scoring 31 points and allowing Oswego to score just seven.
Girard relentlessly extended their lead to 55-11 in the second quarter to completely shut the Indians down.
Throughout the second half, the Trojans sent in members of the younger squad to withstand Oswego.

After wrapping things up, Girard earned another victory with a final score of 71-20. This closed their regular season with a record of 15-5.
Three of Girard’s players broke into double digits against Oswego: Ethan Goff with 10 points, Caleb Muia with 17 points and Ryder Worrell with 13 points.
Now heading into substate, the Lady Trojans’ will be the number one ranked seed and will face Prairie View in the first round Thursday, March 1. Girard boys will also be the number one seed and will face Praire View Friday, March 2. Substate will be hosted in Frontenac.
