St. Paul achieves victories over Oswego

After facing Southern Coffee County Monday, the St. Paul Indians’ girls and boys basketball teams moved on to face Oswego Tuesday, Feb. 13.

In the girls’ matchup, St. Paul started out slow in the first quarter but still managed to score a quick 9-5 lead.

The Lady Indians’ picked up their pace in the second quarter and scored 24 points, while Oswego only managed to score four.

With a 33-9 lead heading into the second half, St. Paul was comfortable but steady. They continued to outscore Oswego 13-5 in the third quarter to pull even further ahead.

Oswego scored just two points in the fourth quarter, while St. Paul scored seven to bring the final score to 53-16.

This victory improved the Lady Indians’ record to 16-2. Katelin O’Brien was St. Paul’s main offensive contributor in this victory, scoring 12 solo points.

St. Paul’s boys had no issue with Oswego either, and easily kept them in line.

In the first quarter, the Indians established an impressive 27-8 lead to immediately leave Oswego in their dust.

St. Paul did not stop after the first quarter but stayed relentless and scored an additional 25 points to bring the score to 52-18 at the half.

After the half, Oswego still could not discover a way to stunt the Indians. St. Paul continued to pull away by outscoring Oswego 13-4 in the third quarter.

The Indians wrapped the game up by scoring eight and allowing five in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to 73-27.

This much-needed victory moved St. Paul’s record to 8-11. Braven Born led the Indians’ offense toward the victory with 18 individual points.

St. Paul’s next matchups will be at home against Yates Center Friday, Feb. 16.
