Auditions slated for unique holiday performance
PITTSBURG, Kan. — Auditions for an original PCT production under the direction of John Mazurek will be held Monday, Oct. 9, and Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Memorial Auditorium, 503 N. Pine in Pittsburg.
The show, “Red Skelton’s Freddie the Freeloader’s Christmas Dinner,” requires a big cast of diverse performers, including children, dogs, and older adults — actors and singers alike.
The script is based on a TV special that premiered on HBO on Dec. 13, 1981. The program stars Red Skelton (1913-1997), an American entertainer with national radio and TV acts, including The Red Skelton Show.
In PCT’s stage version of the show, Freddie the Freeloader prepares to scrape together money and enjoy a Christmas dinner with his equally poverty-stricken friend, Professor Humperdo, at one of New York’s fancy restaurants. Stopping along the way, he visits a hospital and entertains some children for Christmas. The special includes drama, miming, and music for which Skelton was known. In addition to the cast, we’re looking for six to eight singers to perform holiday music.
