The Girard Lady Trojan basketball team walked away with their 12th win of the season, blowing out Frontenac 71-38 Tuesday night, while the boys lost 57-52.
In the girls game, Girard controlled the pace from the opening tip.
Scoring a 19-11 advantage in the first quarter, Calea Augustin was able to lead the charge with six first quarter points. Ashley Ray and Sydnee Crain would take it from there, posting a combined 33 points scored between the two on the night.
Going into halftime, Girard held a firm 35-20 advantage.
The second half proved to be much of the same for Lady Trojans, as they outscored Frontenac 17-12 and 19-6 in the third and fourth quarters.
When the buzzer sounded, the Lady Trojans advanced to a 12-0 record on the year and found themselves tied with the 2010-2011 girls team for the best start in program history.
Girard was led in scoring by Ray with 20 points, Crain followed with 13 and Augustin finished with 12. Kalyn Flaharty added 6, Lauren Franklin scored 5, with Kelli Cuthbertson and Olivia Hanson posting 4 apiece.
On the boys side, Girard was on fire in the first half of the contest.
Using transition plays and effective rebounding, the Trojans were able to jump out to a 13-point lead before heading into the locker room.
However, Frontenac came out firing in the second half, knocking down shots and crashing the offensive boards.
Slowly, the Raiders fought back and found themselves in the lead heading in to the fourth quarter.
Girard was able to start a late rally, but it proved to be too little, too late as Frontenac walked away with the 57-52 victory.
The boys record drops to 8-5 in the defeat and the Trojans third straight loss in a row.
Girard was led in scoring by Caleb Muia with 12 points, followed by Dakota Lopez and Jordan Hopson with 9 apiece, Isaiah Fisher posted 8 and Eric Wilson had 6.
The Trojans travel to Columbus on Friday to face the Titans.
