Doris Albert Potts, 91 of Pittsburg passed at 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Medicalodge South of Pittsburg, Kansas.
Doris was born August 30, 1924 in Shobonier, Illinois, a daughter of William and Edith (Williams)Albert.
She attended school at Shobonier and Vandalia, Illinois where she graduated from High School in 1942.
She moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming. in 1944 to enroll in the Cadet Nurses program.
She was married to Melvin L. Potts of Green River, Wyoming. on April 14, 1946 and moved to Kansas in 1951.
She was granted an Associate of Arts degree from the Chanute Kansas Junior College in 1957, and a BSc. in Education from Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg, now Pittsburg State University, in 1959. She was an elementary grade school teacher in Ft. Collins, Colorado in 1960-1961. She was a lifetime member of the American Baptist Churches and served in many related activities. She also served the American Baptist Women’s Ministries at the local, association, and regional level. She was a long time member of the League of Women Voters, and a current member of the AARP, and Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas of Joplin, Missouri., James and his wife, Judy Henderson of Pittsburg, Kansas., a granddaughter, Evangela Suzuki, and great-grandson Ian Suzuki of Oronogo, Missouri, two sisters, Joyce Demchuck of Kirkland, Washington, Ida Jean Cole of CleElum, Washington and a brother, Oscar Albert of Pocatello Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, her parents, and an infant daughter, Edith Ann
Graveside services for Doris A. Potts will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 27, 2016 at the Girard Cemetery with Reverend Rick Bartlett officiating. Friends are ask to meet at the cemetery.
A visitation will be held following the service at the First Baptist Church of Pittsburg.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Pittsburg Memorial Fund and these may be left at the cemetery or the Church, or mailed to the Church at 209 W. 7th St., Pittsburg, Kansas 66762 or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral home, 518 W.
