Lady Indians remain undefeated, boys lose a shootout

St. Paul hosted Northeast for a pair of Three Rivers League matchups on Friday night. The Lady Indians stayed undefeated with a 54-36 victory, while the boys fell 84-71 to the Vikings.

St. Paul featured a balanced offense in their 12-point first quarter, with five Lady Indians scoring two points, while Emily Winter led the team with four. St. Paul’s defense stymied the Lady Vikings, allowing just five points.

The Lady Indians’ offense stole the show and put the game out of reach with a 21-point second quarter. After hitting no threes in the first, St. Paul got hot behind the arc in the second quarter. Josie Albertini hit two treys, and Jordyn Tuck and Sydney Rice added one apiece. The Lady Indians held a 33-13 lead at halftime.
Winter paced St. Paul’s 11-point third quarter with her second four-point quarter, but Northeast matched the Lady Indians’ 11 points, and the margin stayed at 20 points. The Lady Vikings outscored St. Paul 12-10 in the fourth quarter, but the damage had been done, and the Lady Indians cruised to an 18-point win and remain undefeated at 11-0.

Boys lose a shootout
In the boys’ game, St. Paul’s offensive struggles in the first quarter may have been their downfall. The Indians scored just seven points in the first compared to the Vikings’ 16. The Indians were outscored by just four points the rest of the way.
The Indian offense found its rhythm in the second as they outscored the Vikings 22-21. Noah Winter led the offensive attack with seven points, and Patrick O’Brien scored six of his seven points in the second. Northeast held a 37-29 halftime advantage.
If there was ever a chance of a comeback, the Vikings stole the possibility with a huge 29-point third quarter, while holding the Indians to 16. While Northeast stole the game in the third, Chandler Struthers stole the show. After scoring just eight points in the first half, Struthers got hot, adding 12 points in the third, and he wasn’t finished.
Struthers hit three treys in route to a 13-point fourth quarter adding to his game high 33 points, but it wouldn’t be enough. Northeast would seal the 13-point win in the fourth quarter, dropping the Indians record to 4-8 on the season.

Winter cracked double digits with 12 points behind Struthers 33. Brenden Doherty, O’Brien and Jace McCracken added 7 apiece.
St. Paul will travel to Pleasanton on Tuesday to continue TRL play.
