Obituary: Olvie Elmer

Olvie Mae Elmer, 91, of Walnut, Kansas, died at 7:45 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at her residence in Walnut.  Olvie Elmeredited
Olvie was born August 7, 1925 in Hilltop, Arkansas, a daughter of Lewis M. and Nancy Elizabeth (Jones) Newberry.  She moved to Kansas as a teenager.
Olvie married Leslie W. Pope on February 25, 1942 in Iola, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on October 18, 1968.  She married Albert Elmer in July of 1969 in Independence, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on February 25, 1983.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Jo Howard and Diane Blackburn, both of Parsons; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Elveta Dorris of Erie and Beatrice Gafni of Israel.
Olvie was preceded in death by her sons, Kenneth Pope, in 2000, and Leland Pope, in 1946; grandson, Danny Joe Brown; brothers Arvin Newberry, Eltie Newberry, and Emerson Newberry; sisters Dorothy Armor, Juanita Davidson, Oda Dawson, Louise Hines, and Joan Volk.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Lakeview Cemetery south of Erie with Pastor John Chastain officiating.
Friends may call after 1:00 p.m., Monday at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie.
