Lady Indians fall to Argonia

The Lady Indians defeated the Sedan Devils 40-31 in their previous matchup, Feb. 23, advancing to the Sub-State semifinals. Thursday, Feb. 28, St. Paul (17-4) met with the Argonia Red Raiders (20-2) for a chance at a sub-state championship berth.

Argonia came out of the gate red-hot outscoring the Lady Indians 18-8 in the first quarter. As offensive woes continued for St. Paul, the Red Raiders would maintain a near double-digit lead throughout the second quarter with the Lady Indians struggling to find an answer.

St. Paul would trail 26-17 at halftime.

It seemed the first half took a 180 turn as the Lady Indians were red-hot in the second half.

Outscoring Argonia 31-23, the Lady Indians battled their way back into the game against the #9 Class 1A team but come up just short, 49-48. St. Paul finishes their season undefeated TRL champions with much of their roster set to return next year as they will lose one senior.

Junior Katie Coomes ended the game with 15 points including 8 in the second half, leading the Lady Indians in scoring. Junior Emily Hutcherson made a strong effort as well finishing the night with 14 points. Other key contributors include; Wiatrak (7), Bradshaw (6).
