An Arma family is nearing their goal of $5,000 raised for the funerary expenses for their daughter after she died in a car wreck.

A single-vehicle accident killed Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) student Jazmin Nunn, 18, on Feb. 19.

Her 2012 Ford Focus struck a tree head-on just west of Free Kings Highway after running off eastbound Quincy Avenue, near Pittsburg. The Kansas Highway Patrol handled the scene.

Nunn’s family started “In Memory of Jazmin Nunn” on GoFundMe.com and raised $3,660 as of Feb. 22. The donation portal’s URL is https://www.gofundme.com/afpxhrwc

“Teresa and her family lost Jazmin in a sudden and tragic accident,” the page overview reads. “Everyone who knew Jazmin knows how full of life and personality she was. She is missed by so many and her family will never be the same.”

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Jazmin’s Arma alma mater, Northeast High School, 1003 E. South St.

Nunn took classes at Pittsburg State University through an FSCC cooperative program with the university. She worked in Girard at the Producers Coop Farm Store.

Michael Ramirez, 19, and Jena Hart, 18, two Pitt State students who rode in the car with Nunn, received treatment at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

Both have since been discharged, though Hart required a hospital stay in the weekend after the accident.

University President Steve Scott issued a statement after the news of the accident.

“It’s tragic to lose a loved one at such a young age,” Scott said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Jazmin’s family and all of those involved in today’s accident.”

MacKenzi Tims, who attended Northeast High School as a senior during Nunn’s freshman year and who knew her for about five years, spoke on the loss.

“She had a love for life and was full of personality,” Tims said. “She was a great person.”
