Verres (Peggy) A. Duncan, age 91, died early in the morning of the first full day of spring, Tuesday, March 21, 2017. Peggy was born on Christmas Eve 1925 to Lawrence and Mayme Everts in Wichita, Kansas. Raised as an only child, Peggy enjoyed roller skating, going to movies with friends and jitterbugging. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Wichita and began working at Cities Service Company in Wichita. While at Cities Service, she met her future husband, John Duncan. John and Peggy were married in October 1955. In the following years, John and Peggy moved several times, eventually settling in Caney, Kansas. In 2007, Peggy relocated to Girard, Kansas in order to be near her daughter Marilyn’s family.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband, John, and recently, her son, Tim. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Terri Rolls, Caney; daughter, Debra Duncan, Wichita; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Tim Hey, Girard; and daughter-in-law, Renata (KK) Duncan, Rawlins, WY. Peggy is also survived by her adored grandchildren: Rachel Rolls and husband Matt Ferrell; Justin Rolls; Meghan Rolls; Lindsi Brightly and husband, Trent; Brant Duncan and wife, Taryn; Haley Smart; Karley Smart; John Hey; and Madison Hey. Peggy was also delighted to be a great grandmother to Karter Duncan, Piper Duncan and Remington Brightly.
Peggy loved to vacation in Colorado with family, which she did more than 40 times during her lifetime. She was a devoted wife and an adoring mother. She will be remembered for her gentle nature and loving personality.
A Rosary for Peggy will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017, 7 p.m., at St. Michael Catholic Church, Girard. Peggy’s long-time parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Caney, will also have a Rosary on Friday at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Caney, at 1 p.m., with interment following at Sunnyside Cemetery, Caney.
