Mary Kay Stephan, 75, of Walnut, died at 7:50 p.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in the Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
Kay was born December 6, 1940 in St. Paul, a daughter of Cyril and Marie (Kennedy) Lancaster.
Kay grew up and attended school in Louisville, Kentucky before returning to St. Paul in 1956, where she graduated from St.Paul High School.
In her younger years, Kay worked at a sewing factory in Parsons and later in the maternity ward at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott.
Kay married James Francis Stephan on September 8, 1962 in St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. James preceded her in death on March 24, 2016.
Kay did volunteer work at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul and the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard.
Survivors are her children, Lori Stephan of Kansas City, Missouri; Tim Stephan of Walnut; Victor Stephan of Walnut; Eric Stephan of Walnut; her daughter-in-law, Ronda Stephan, of Madill, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Abbie, Rachael, and Katy Stephan; her sister, June Roberts of Kansas City, Missouri; her brother, Jack Lancaster of Wichita, Kansas.
Kay was preceded in death by a son, Kelly Stephan, on May 20, 2015; a brother, Bob Lancaster.
Kay’s wishes were to be cremated and have no services.
Memorials are suggested to the Walnut Community Center and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
