Barbara Jean Seiwert, 60, of St. Paul, passed away at 10:47 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
She was born Aug. 10, 1957 in Chanute, Kansas to Peter C. and Delia (VanLeeuwen) Seiwert. Through the years, Barbara had resided in Walnut, St. Paul, and Erie.
In earlier years, she was employed by ResCare in Parsons in housekeeping. Barbara was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Walnut and St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Her smile and laughter were contagious, her heart was made of gold, and she never met a stranger. Barb was always friendly, happy, and never missed an opportunity to share a hug with one of her many friends. She also loved children, cats, and especially her pet cat, Sunshine. Barb enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics and was especially proud of the medals she earned.

She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Seiwert, on April 8, 1998.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017 at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Walnut. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.

A special “thank you” to the staff at ResCare and Prairie Mission Retirement Village for helping Barb reach her highest level of independence and providing for her care. Barb’s mother and family would also like to thank Mike Carter and his amazing staff for the excellent health care they provided to Barb throughout the years. They always knew how to make her smile!!!
