Donald Leroy “Mac” McDaniel, 88, of Girard, passed away at 9:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in the Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri where he entered February 24, 2016.
Don was born August 31, 1927 at Sharon, Kansas, a son of John and Helen (Ebersole) McDaniel. He moved with his family to rural Hepler, Kansas in 1939 and later to Walnut, Kansas, where he attended Walnut Schools.
He served in the US Navy during W.W.II.
Don married Marjorie H. Guthridge and she preceded him in death on November 7, 1972. He married Rose Mary Cukjati on June 15, 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.
Don farmed with his father at rural Walnut and later at rural Girard. Don worked at the Parsons Stock Yards in Parsons, Kansas for over 35 years and he also worked building fences with Johnny Brown of Girard.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He enjoyed his pulling ponies and won numerous awards including the state championship in the early 70’s. Don loved to play cards and Dominoes with friends and family, fishing, and especially farming.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Rose Mary, of the home, are daughters Carolyn Long, and her husband, Harold, of Sarcoxie, Missouri and Cindy Murray, and her husband, Bob, of Girard; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Linder, and her husband, Wayne, of Wellsville, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou McDaniel of Earlham, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bud McDaniel.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m., Friday until service time at the funeral home where friends may call after 1:00 p.m., Thursday.
