Bill Senecaut, 84, of Girard passed away at 8:02 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the WestRidge Retirement Community of Girard.
Bill was born March 21, 1933 in Radley, Kansas a son of Marceau and Emma (Edwards) Senecaut.
Bill attended school in Frontenac, Kansas. He served his country as a member of the United States Army.
On August 16, 1953, Bill was united in marriage to Rose Mary Burgar at The Girard United Methodist Church.
Bill began his career with the Hull & Dillon Packing Company in 1953. In 1960, Bill, along with his brother Richard, established the S & S Packing Company Inc. in Girard. In 1970 they established and operated an additional processing plant in Frontenac. After Richards’ passing in 1995, Bill continued to operate both plants until 2003. Selling his Girard and Frontenac operation awarded him the opportunity to open a processing plant in Cherokee, Kansas until his retirement in 2007. After retirement, Bill drove a school bus for the U.S.D. 248 school system until August of 2016.
Bill dedicated his life to public service, serving in many leadership roles of the community. He served as a 4-H Leader, a member of the Crawford County Fair Board; he served as Mayor for the City of Girard and as a Commissioner in charge of several areas of administration for the city, especially the street department. Bill was an active member of The Girard United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge A.F & A.M. # 93 of Girard, the Chapter and Commandery of Fort Scott, Kansas, the Scottish Rite, the Royal order of Jesters and the Mirza Shrine where he served as Potentate between 1993 to 1994.
He enjoyed camping, boating and polka dances.
Bill is survived by his wife Rose Mary of the home, three daughters; Cheri Naylor of Girard, Cindy Southard and her husband Jeff of Girard, Mandy Diskin and her husband Jason of Girard, one sister, Marilyn Haverly, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Senecaut and one sister, Donna Cherry.
Services for Bill Senecaut will be 10 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Girard United Methodist Church with Reverend Dallas Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Girard Cemetery with military honors given by the Girard American Legion; George C. Brown Post # 26.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 19 from 7 p.m. till 8 p.m. at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m., Wednesday.
