Obituary: Betty L. Serra

Betty L. Serra, 95 of Frontenac (formerly Capaldo) passed away at 1:40 a.m., Thursday, November 29, 2018, at the Medicalodge of Girard.
Betty was born April 1, 1923 in Cherokee, Kansas, the daughter of Ray and Mary (Kellogg) Madison.
On April 12, 1941, Betty and Leo Serra were united in marriage at Girard. Leo preceded her in death on November 24, 1991.
Betty was a bookkeeper for Serra’s Garage and Used Car Sales for many years in Capaldo.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Frontenac and the Ladies Alter Society. Her main focus was on being a wonderful mother and grandmother to all of those she loved, and cooking/baking tasty things to fill everyone’s bellies.
Betty is survived by one daughter; Janet Easter of Girard. Her grandchildren are Douglas and Kimberly Easter of Carl Junction, Pam Easter of Joplin, and Patty and Randy Cox of Severy. Her great-grandchildren are Emily Smalley of Frontenac, Chelsey and Paul Junker of Joplin, Zac and Kelci Palumbo of Frontenac, Malarie and Dakota Chamberlain of Piedmont, Andi Palumbo of Pittsburg, and Dalton Cox of Emporia. Her great-great-grandson is Corbin Chamberlain.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Leroy Easter of Girard; her sisters, Fern Taylor of Spearville, Hazel Zinn of Arkansas City, and Virginia Potocnik of Cherokee; her brother Junior Madison of Quapaw.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Fr. Floyd McKinney as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Frontenac.
Rosary will be at 5 p.m., Sunday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where the family will receive friends following the Rosary.
Friends may call after 2 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
