It was a tough matchup and the game was closer than the final score would indicate, but St. Paul survived their game against Parsons, winning 57-47 to remain undefeated on the season.
After one quarter of play, the Lady Indians held a 12-7 advantage, and you could tell both teams were really trying to figure the other out. The Lady Vikings would battle back, taking a one-point advantage into halftime.
St. Paul outscored Parsons 16-10 in the third quarter. Just as it seemed St. Paul was pulling away, Parsons would hit a bucket to keep it within reach. Back and fourth from a St. Paul 9 point lead, cut down to 6, then 5, and back again. In fourth, the Lady Indians had their highest scoring output of the game with 20 points, which would seal the fate of Parsons and secure the 10-point victory.
Ashton Wood dominated for St. Paul, scoring 25 points, three treys and made eight free throws. Wood also dished out a team-high four assists. Keyahnah Burk added 13 points for the Lady Indians. Freshman Katelin O’Brien came up big on defense, blocking three shots while collecting six rebounds and adding in 8 hard earned points on the night.
With a first-round bye and the win over Parsons, St. Paul advances to the championship game where they will meet a familiar opponent in Columbus. The Lady Indians defeated Columbus in the St. Paul early season tournament. The Lady Titans picked up wins over Jayhawk-Linn and Baxter Springs to make it to the championship game.
The tournament finale will be held on Saturday at 6pm in Southeast.
