K7/K47 intersection opens

Girard, Kan.– The K7/K47 highway in Girard will be open to thru traffic as of 7pm tonight (August 16, 2016). Kansas Highway 7 North/South bound is currently open and K47 East/West bound is scheduled to open at 7pm to thru traffic.

Construction at the intersection will continue as final touches are made. Please use caution at the newly opened intersection.

The City of Girard was awarded a $750,000 Geometric Improvement grant in 2013 from the Kansas Department of Transportation. Construction began in May 2016, with the goal of the intersection being open in time for school to start.

USD 248 students return to classes tomorrow, August 17th.
