STAFF REPORTS
The Girard Trojan football team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 57-0 win over Southeast Friday, Oct. 7.
The Trojans dominated the Lancers in all three phases of the game, which allowed the team to jump out to a big lead to provide some playing time for younger players.
On the first possession of the game, Camden McFarland punched in a one-yard touchdown to cap off a seven play, 52 yard drive, making the score 6-0.
After a quick Lancer three-and-out, the Trojans found the scoreboard again after a 45-yard pass from quarterback Eric Wilson to Jordan Hopson.
Another three-yard touchdown by McFarland later in the quarter would make the score 26-0 heading into the second.
Shortly after the start of the second quarter, Wilson connected with Isaiah Fisher on a 30-yard touchdown pass. McFarland soon punched in another touchdown, this one from 29 yards out.
The Trojans headed into the locker room with a 41-0 lead at the half. Coach Leon Miller started many of his younger players in the second half to showcase some up and coming Girard talent.
Junior Kyler Siebert took over at the quarterback position and punched in a five-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Sophomore Kreed Curran scored on the two-point conversion to earn his first varsity points.
In the fourth, Siebert dropped back for a pass, only to tuck it himself, taking the ball 52-yards for his second touchdown of the night. This would be the final score of the game to make it 57-0.
The Trojan defense only allowed minimal yards all night long and many younger players were able to gain valuable Friday night minutes.
Wilson threw for 85 yards as well as two touchdowns on the night.
McFarland led all Girard rushers with 105 rushing yards on seven carries and three touchdowns. Fisher added 31 yards on the ground and a touchdown of his own, while Siebert finished with 76 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
With the win, Girard advanced to 2-4 on the season, while Southeast dropped to 0-5.
The Trojans will be back in action Friday, Oct. 14, in Girard against Anderson County on Senior Night. The Bulldogs are also 2-4 on the season, and this will mark the first game of district play for both teams.
Look for an interesting showdown on Friday night in what could be, if forecasts are correct, another Trojan Mud Bowl.
