Early afternoon on Thursday, Feb. 22, the Erie Police Department responded to a call from Erie High School in regard to a student who allegedly made comments in reference to having plans to commit a shooting at the school.
Officers spoke with witnesses who had heard the student’s comments, and, according to Erie Chief of Police Tyeler Riggs, one arrest was made. The student, a minor, was then transported to the Neosho County Sheriff’s Department for further questioning and screening by the Juvenile Justice Authority.
The student was then taken to the Girard Juvenile Detention Center, pending his first appearance. Police reports regarding the incident are being filed and forwarded to the Neosho County Attorney’s office for review.
“Charges are currently pending,” Chief Riggs said.
