Two white male suspects are at large as of late Wednesday evening after fleeing police from the site of a Girard burglary.

At 11:02 a.m. on April 19, a homeowner in town told 911 he interrupted a burglary at his home and caused the men responsible to flee in a silver car.

Deputies intercepted the car and pursued it through the Girard area to northeast Crawford County.

The vehicle drove with its trunk open, blocking view of the license plate. It evaded pursuit near Mulberry and is thought to have crossed the state line.

“(Police) believe it to be based on their experience to be possibly a Toyota model,” said Sheriff Dan Peak. “With the trunk basically flopping around they could not get a clear look at it.”

The victims told the sheriff’s office they lost tools and propane heaters to the burglars, who also are thought to have damaged a livestock trailer at the scene.

Peak said the name and address of the homeowner will be released when a report about the incident has been filed.

The Kansas Highway Patrol, Girard Police, Arma Police, Mulberry Police and the Barton County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office aided the pursuit.

Anyone with information on the suspects’ identity or whereabouts should dial 911 or the CCSO at 620-724-8274. .
