Leroy David Russell, 68, of Pittsburg, Kansas died unexpectedly at his home on November 1, 2016. He was born September 9, 1948 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Earl A. and Antonia “Toni” (Angel) Russell.
Leroy attended Pittsburg Schools. He had been employed by McNally Manufacturing until the company closed and then by Dillon’s until his retirement several years ago.
Leroy was preceded in death by his mother Antonia A. Russell on February 23, 1990, his father Earl A. Russell on July 12, 1996, Leroy’s brother Dennis E. Russell on July 15, 2002, and first cousins Sue and Wayne Russell. He is survived by his first cousins Carolyn Russell Harper, Nancy Angel Hurt, Frank Oplotnik, John Oplotnik, Jim Russell, Janet Russell Sincavage, and Anna Fern Oplotnik Snow.
Leroy was a 20-year charter member of the Sons of American Legion of the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64, SNPJ Lodge No. 225 and the Kansas Sheriffs’ Association. He enjoyed hanging out at the legion, playing cards and hunting.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016, 11 a.m. at the Benjamin Fuller American Legion hall. Lunch will be served. A private burial service at the Cherokee Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Leroy may be made to the Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post No. 64 and these may be left at the American Legion or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
