A large water leak was reported around 2:30 a.m. July 19 in Girard near the intersection of Maple and Osage streets.

The Girard public works crew had the water main break repaired around 8 a.m. this morning.

City workers were in the process of refilling the swimming pool when the leak was reported, and due to the amount of water being lost, they had to postpone the filling of the pool.

The public works crew is currently working on more leaks by the water well.

Regarding the leak, Girard City Administrator Chris Weiner said, “The leak found this morning was approximately the size of a softball in an eight-inch water main, which resulted in a significant loss of water. We have begun the process of refilling the pool again now and hope to have it full and opened back up tomorrow.”
