Obituary: Ruth A. Mahar

   Ruth A. Mahar, 96, of Girard, Kansas, went to be with the Lord at 12:25 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2018 surrounded by her family at WestRidge Assisted Living in Girard.
Ruth was born September 30, 1922 in Mishawaka, Indiana, daughter of William H. and Flossie (Voelker) Hoeflinger.  She grew up and attended schools in Michigan and graduated from high school in Vermontville, Michigan.
   Ruth married Bernard L. Mahar on May 20, 1941 in Hastings, Michigan.  He preceded her in death on November 9, 1990.
   Ruth was a piano teacher in Girard from 1963 until retiring in 2005.  In 2007, she moved to Granby, Missouri before returning to Girard in 2014.
   Ruth was a charter member of the Girard Bible Church and a teacher in the Good News Club.  She was a member of the Girard Music Club.
   Ruth enjoyed her family, reading her Bible, working with children in child evangelism, and her music.
   Survivors are her sons: Mark Mahar and his spouse Don of Girard and David Mahar and his wife Glenda of Springfield, Missouri; her daughters: Marcia Davidson and her husband Howard of Neosho, Missouri; Bobbie Mathis and her husband Gene of Granby, Missouri; Ruth DeMoure and her husband Gaylord of Girard; and Leigh Walters and partner Bob Wolff of Girard; eleven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; her brothers: Bill Hoeflinger of Coldwater, Michigan and Richard Hoeflinger of Tucson, Arizona; her sisters: Betty Nichols of Charlotte, Michigan and Barbara Bleisch of Lansing, Michigan.
   Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Barnes; a brother, George Hoeflinger; her sisters, Catherine Hoeflinger and Marilyn Francis.
   Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the Girard Bible Church in Girard with Pastor Noah Hartmetz officiating.  Burial will be in the Fort Scott National Cemetery at Fort Scott, Kansas.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard where friends may call after 2:00 p.m., Tuesday.
   Memorials are suggested to Child Evangelism Fellowship and these may be left at or mailed to the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
