Obituary: Elizabeth McWilliams

Elizabeth McWilliams, 89, of Girard, Kansas, died at 3:35 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 in the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.
She was born May 28, 1927, in Cherokee, Kansas, a daughter of James Michael and Nellie Ann (Brisbin) Mishler.  She grew up and attended schools in Monmouth and McCune, Kansas, graduating from McCune High School in 1945. Elizabeth McWilliams Photo
Elizabeth married Emery L. “Mac” McWilliams on August 5, 1945 in McCune.  He preceded her in death on March 1, 2005.
They made their home in Pittsburg before moving to Girard in 1960 where Elizabeth worked at Carl’s Drug Store, Fogg’s Ben Franklin, Girard Florist, and the Girard High School Cafeteria.
She was a member of the First Christian church, the Electa Chapter No. 23, Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge No. 238, all of Girard.
Elizabeth enjoyed her family, cooking, flower gardening, and arts and crafts.
Survivors are a son, Bill McWilliams, Sr., and his wife, Cathy, of Girard; a daughter, Marsha Sands and her husband, Joe, of Girard; grandchildren Billy McWilliams, Jr., James McWilliams and his wife, Leigh, Scott Sands and his wife, Amy, Christi Pinamonti and her husband, Matt, Bob Sands and his wife, Carla and Marla Spears; nine great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her brothers John “Jack” Mishler, Floyd Mishler, James Mishler and Louis Mishler; her sisters Maudy Mishler, Lula Childers, Ellen Quenoy, Juanita Green, Leona Nutt Boehne and Sara Brezavar.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating.  Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 p.m., Wednesday.
Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church New Building Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association, and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
