SOFTBALL OPENER: Girard softball dominates Parsons

The Girard Lady Trojan softball team swept Parsons Tuesday, March 28, 11-1 and 15-0.

Girard started the first game off with seven runs in the first two innings. RBI’s from Shaylun Grosstephan, Laney Shireman, Shelby Smith and Maleah Sandy pushed an early Lady Trojan lead.

In the fourth, Jaylynn Jenkins also brought in a run off a single, before Parsons finally crossed home to make the score 8-1 at the end of the inning.

Shireman and Grosstephan nailed two more RBIs before Sydnee Crain knocked in a run to end the first contest 11-1 due to mercy rule.

In the second contest, Girard found much of the same success.

Immediately in the contest, Girard jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the second inning of play.

Grosstephan played a very solid game, driving home multiple runs throughout the contest.

Just like the first contest, Girard scored in the fourth inning to end the game early due to mercy rule with the score at 15-0.

With this strong showing, Girard jumps out to a 2-0 record on the year and will look to continue this success when they are back in action against Riverton Monday, April 3.
